The perfect glamping getaway near Cape Town

Karen and her husband and kids
A mere 2h10 minute drive from Cape Town you will arrive at AfriCamps at Pat Busch, located in Pat Busch Mountain Reserve, just outside of Roberston. Our Karen and her family had an amazing weekend getaway there and really enjoyed their stay. Read here about the Camp and their experience.

This Glamping experience is perfect for those nature lovers, hiking enthusiasts, outdoor individuals and those looking for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city or everyday life. We travelled as a family, however, this experience is well suited for couples; old or young at heart, as well as friends travelling together

With ten glamping tents, each is equipped with a bathroom (toilet, basin and shower), two rooms (one with a double bed and the other with a double bed and single bunk bed), an open plan sitting, dining and kitchen area as well as a spacious deck with outside seating area and braai - you really do not need much more. The kitchen is well equipped with a small fridge/freezer, gas stove, microwave, kettle, toaster including cutler and crockery – amples towels are provided (you do need to bring along your own swimming towels) and fresh linen with pillows and the most amazing, comfortable beds offering a restful nights sleep – this glamping experience lives up to its reputation.

The key word with Africamps at Pat Busch is outdoor activities, from spending your days swimming in the pool offering the most beautiful views, taking a hike along the various mountain trails on offer within the reserve, fishing in (strictly on a catch and release basis) or kayaking on the dam, following the nature walk paths to mountain biking - the outdoor activities on offer feed the soul and fill the lungs with fresh air.

One might think with the emphasis on outdoor activities - Africamps at Pat Busch would be a summer experience, however, during the winter months you can cozy up to a indoor fire while admiring the wet, lush vegetation and mountain landscape outside, during the day you can visit one of the many local wine farms and learn more about the wines of the region with a variety of wine tasting and indulge in a heartwarming lunch or dinner.

Enroute we stopped at Van Lovern wine farm, which I can highly recommend. They offer simple wine tastings at their wine pod or sit down wine and food pairings after which you can enjoy a well plated and very tasty meal at Christina's Restaurant. However there are plenty more wine experiences within the area, Robertson Winery, Zandvliet Wine Estate, Graham Beck and many many more.

Overall our glamping experience was one of clean, very comfortable accommodation, mountain landscapes and natural vegetation that go on forever, outdoor activities that revive the mind, body and soul – an experience we would certainly do over.
