Blog-Through the Route 62, Part 8 - ROBERTSON

The town of Robertson, our eighth stop along the Longest Wine Route in the world, the Route 62, is part of the "Langeberg Municapility" which is made up of five towns. The other four all being part of the Route 62 too, (which we will be visiting  soon in our blog), namely, Montagu, Ashton, Bonnievale and McGregor.  Robertson is known as the "Small Town with a Big Heart", and has beautiful setting, tucked below the impressive Langeberg Mountain range, and the beauty of the Breede River passing through it.
Why not ditch the car for a day of Harley Davidson bike riding around the beautiful Mountain passes and cruise through the valleys?
Best'Ting Tours have a range of Harley's, and you can do a half day or full day bike tour,  with a professional biking guide, and the routes are custom made to see the sights that interest you most!

If you are more of a paddle person, than a pedal person, you may prefer to take a River Rafting experience whilst in Robertson. The Rafting Route 62 offers a 6km rafting experience down the Breede river, which is gentle enough for first timers, but still has some exciting rapids for those more experienced paddlers. Plus you get to pass by all the beautiful vineyards, and mountains, and see some wonderful birdlife too.  Booking is essential though!

Birders will also be impressed with Robertson's "Bird Paradise", with over 100 different birds from all around the world in one place.
The best part of the Route 62 experience, is the endless selection of wine farms to visit and experience, after all, the Route 62 is the longest wine route in the world!  There are so many wineries to choose from at each stop, so you have to do a little homework to decide which of them may be worth spending time at. The Springfield Estate in Robertson is something quite special, run by a brother and sister team, and the 4th generation in their family to continue with the farm, with the bonus of being in a beautiful setting. They don't do meals, but you are welcome to bring your own picnic basket and enjoy the surroundings.

Although Springfield Estate may not serve meals, Robertson is not short of wonderful places to find to have an excellent meal. For a special experience, Nerina Guest Farm offers a River Boat restaurant, called the "Kolgans River Boat",  where you can dine as you enjoy the floating past beautiful surroundings. The Farm has a lot of history, and you are bound to meet one of the very down to earth owners when visiting.

The Mo & Rose Wine Bistro is a beautiful renovated old barn with beautiful gardens, and an excellent food and wine experience.

For those that look for a good local pub with a good vibe, the Saggy Stone Brewery is set in a plum orchard with spectacular mountain views. It is family friendly and offers live entertainment on certain days (phone to check).
