HEAD IN THE CLOUDS:
DISCOVER THE PANORAMA ROUTE

By Corinne
What if I told you that there is a place in South Africa where you can find the most amazing views around every corner. On the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga you will experience rocky mountains, endless horizons, lush forests, stunning waterfalls and the impressive Blyde River Canyon.

The mountains along this route reach up to 2.5 km and provide panorama views of an incomparable landscape at numerous view points. Frequently, the clouds move in and nothing can be seen. At times you are seemingly above the clouds down in the valley.

The small town of Graskop is the gateway to the dramatic scenery of the Panorama Route. Fairly winding roads surrounded by thick forests head to scenic landmarks with expressive names like Wonder View, God’s Window, the Pinnacle, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels. Moreover, there are eight waterfalls that you can visit on and around the Panorama Route. They are as blissful as they are awe-inspiring and including Berlin Falls, Lisbon Falls and Mac Mac Falls to name a few. Adding some historical romance, the goldrush town of Pilgrim’s Rest gives you the chance to take a trip back in time and relive the 1837 goldrush. It was here that gold was first discovered in South Africa.

When travelling from Johannesburg to the Kruger Park, include the Panorama route to experience some of the most unique and breathtaking scenery in the world and to witness some of South Africa’s greatest natural wonders. The route is so incredibly rich with sites of adventure and beauty.

Here are some of the magnificent attractions that you can expect in a beautiful nature, where thick forests reach for the heavens while cotton clouds sink to the ground:
Amazing Africa Tours - The Berlin Falls
The Berlin Falls – The view of the ravine is absolutely breathtaking but so is the actual waterfall itself. As you take the few steps down to the viewing deck you'll see the whole extent of the beautiful surrounding – it really is a marvelous site.
Amazing Africa Tours - God's Window
God's Window - Walk through the misty forest that's often among low-hanging clouds to reach the viewing spot on the escarpment of the Drakensberg and climp the last stairs to get to the actual "window". Once you arrived at the top you will have an amazing panoramic view across the Lowveld and stunning views of the lush indigenous forested ravine below – a divine experience!
Amazing Africa Tours - Bourke's Luck Potholes
Bourke’s Luck Potholes – These giant potholes have formed at the confluence of the Blyde and Treur rivers and mark the beginning of the Blyde River Canyon. Over centuries the river water has eroded the rocks to form perfectly smooth potholes, strange sculptures, pools and natural rock formations. A great place for you to stretch out your legs as you stroll in the water on the other side of the bridge.
Amazing Africa - Three Rondavels View Point
Three Rondavels Viewpoint – Along the Panorama Route you’ll come across three round mountain tops with slightly pointed summits. These are in the likeness of traditional round or oval African homesteads known as Rondavels. From here you are as well able to view the Blyde River Canyon. It's the largest green canyon in the world.
