Overview

With a surface of scarcely 17,000 square kilometers, the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) is one of the smallest independent countries in the world. Despite its size, it offers a diverse landscape of high mountains, expansive plains, and charming villages. Particularly captivating is the mountainous region in the west, crisscrossed by deep river valleys that provide breathtaking views into the surrounding scenery.

Swaziland impresses with some excellent nature and wildlife reserves. In the east lies the Hlane Royal National Park, which was 1967 officially appointed royal hunting ground and which presents with its area of about 30,000 hectares the largest game reserve in the country. Without any intervention from gamekeepers nature can unfold freely here and creates habitat for elephants, rhinos, giraffes, ostriches, zebras, crocodiles and many other savannah animals.

The small kingdom is a paradise for nature lovers and hikers and offers all kinds of cultural and colourful ceremonies. The life of the Swazi is still closely linked to ancient traditions, therefore the traditional commodities will be put on for the most solemn occasions and danced to old custom and tradition.

Why We Love Eswatini

The Kingdom of Eswatini (previously called Kingdom of Swaziland) is the smallest landlocked country in the southern hemisphere, and the second smallest country in Africa. It is also one of only a handful of absolute monarchies remaining in the world.

It is a country rich in culture and natural beauty – from its mountains and valleys to forests and plains. Eswatini is also home to pristine wildlife reserves dotted across the country that are home to The Big Five. Visitors seeking hiking, biking and rock climbing adventures will find plenty of incredible opportunities for this too.

With culture, history, wildlife and breathtaking scenery all packed into one country, Eswatini is a wonderful destination for anyone looking to visit the African continent.
