Gorongosa National Park: A Great Restoration Story
Our journey starts in Gorongosa National Park, where decades of civil war had caused wildlife to decline by up to 95% due to poaching, habitat destruction, and the collapse of park management. Since 2004, a long-term restoration project has helped the park recover, with anti-poaching teams, reintroduction of key species, and community support. Today, the park is home to over 100,000 animals, with elephants once again roaming freely alongside buffalo, waterbuck, and impala.

What makes it special is that it doesn’t feel crowded like other well known National Parks in Africa. You can explore at a slower pace, whether you’re out on a game drive on the floodplains or hiking up Mount Gorongosa for a view of the whole park. Benguerra Island: A Paradise of Sand and Sea
From Gorongosa National Park, the journey moves toward the coast, with a short flight over Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago it gives you a view of the reefs and sandbanks below.
On Benguerra Island it is all about a slower way of life. The days are spent on the water, whether you’re scuba driving, snorkeling over the reefs, or kayaking through quiet coves. The island has a very peaceful feel, and it’s easy to find a spot where you can sit and listen to the waves without any distractions.

You can take a swim in the turquoise water, enjoy a quiet lunch on the beach, or watch the sun set on the horizon. For more adventurous travellers, there are guided boat trips for scuba diving and deep-sea fishing.
